Tablet computer with booksAt Mars Area School District, technology is an integral part of various curriculum areas. Students are introduced to computers and other technologies in kindergarten at Mars Area Primary Center with programs that supplement math and reading lessons. Computer are available to all Mars Area students (K-6) at a ratio of approximately one (1) computer per every two (2) students.
 
Each Mars Area School District student (Grades 2-12) is offered a District-issued device through the District’s One-to-One (1:1) Technology Program. In accordance with District Policy 237 Electronic Devises & Personal Technology Resources,  students may also use a personal (laptop or tablet) device within the classroom for educational purposes in lieu of a District-provided device.
 
In addition, the District’s schools also have Promethean interactive white boards as well as interactive televisions, and other technologies, which are used to enhance classroom lessons.
 
One-to-One (1:1) Technology Initiative
 
Mars Area School District offers a One-to-One (1:1) Technology Program at Mars Area High School and Mars Area Middle School, Mars Area Centennial School and Mars Area Elementary School. The program, which offers each student in Grades 2-12 an opportunity to use a District-provided device, compliments the District’s curriculum, which has become more technology driven and moved toward electronic textbooks and computer-based assignments. In accordance with District Policy 237 Electronic Devises & Personal Technology Resources, students may use a personal laptop or tablet computer within the classroom for educational purposes in lieu of a District-provided device.

Bring Your Own Technology Program
 
Mars Area School District ‘s Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) program encourages students to bring their personal computing devices such as laptops and tablet computers into the classroom to use for educational purposes. Providing a structured, orderly and distraction free educational environment is necessary when students are utilizing their own technology at school. Therefore, guidelines and procedures have been implemented in accordance with District Policy 237 Electronic Devises & Personal Technology Resources to ensure that mobile devices are only used for educational purposes and under the strict supervision of the classroom instructor.
