Protected Handicapped Students: Chapter 15 (Section 504 Service Agreements)

Mars Area School District will provide each “protected handicapped student,” without discrimination or cost to the student or family, with those related services, aides, or accommodations that are needed to provide an equal opportunity to participate in and obtain the benefits of the school programs and extracurricular activities to the extent appropriate to the student’s abilities. To qualify as a protected handicapped student, the child must be of school age with a physical or mental disability that substantially limits or prohibits participation in, or access to, any aspect of the school program. Services and protections for protected handicapped students are different from those applicable to all eligible students enrolled in special education programs. Additional information about the evaluation procedures and provision of services to protected handicapped students is available to “Protected Handicapped Students” by contacting Dr. Richard Glosser, Director of Pupil Services, 545 Route 228, Mars, Pa. 1604; by phone at (724) 625-1518, ext. 1529; or via e-mail at [email protected].
