Student Eligibility/Parent Notification

When a student is registered for school and a Home Language Survey indicates that a language other than English is spoken by the student or in his/her home, the school will assess the student  in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing, to determine his/her eligibility for placement in an English language development program.

Based on the student's English proficiency test scores, the District will evaluate whether the students is eligible to receive instruction in the District’s English language development program. The goal of the program is to help the student to acquire the English language skills necessary to attain language proficiency and access grade level content instruction for grade promotion and graduation.
