Board Appoints Acting High School Principal

Dr. John H. MayberryMars Area School Board voted unanimously to appoint Dr. John H. Mayberry as Acting Principal at Mars Area High School during the maternity leave of Principal Lindsay Rosswog.

Mayberry recently retired from his position as principal at Hance Elementary School in the Pine-Richland School District, where he began his career in education in 1978 as a science and language arts teacher.

At Pine-Richland, Mayberry had also previously served as an assistant principal and head baseball coach at Pine-Richland High School; as dean of students, an instructional team leader, and science department chair at Pine-Richland Middle School; and as president of the Pine-Richland Education Association. He also previously served as principal of Northern Area Alternative High School.

Mayberry holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Duquesne University as well as a master’s degree in social restoration and bachelor’s degree in education from Slippery Rock University. He also holds Instructional II, Social Restoration (K-12) and Principal (K-12) certifications.

He is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals NASSP and a former member of the Slippery Rock University Department of Secondary Education Advisory Council.
