Student Information Available Online Via Skyward, Schoology

Mars Area School District is continuing to use the Skyward student information system (SIS) and the Schoology learning management system (LMS) for the current school year:

Skyward

The Skyward Family Access portal connects parents/guardians to information regarding student demographics, schedules, attendance and health information; student academic progress; and co-curricular activities throughout the school year.

Access

Parents/guardians may log in to Skyward via the “Student Information System” link on the District’s website, www.marsk12.org, (or directly at https://skyward.iscorp.com/scripts/wsisa.dll/WService=wsedumarsareapa/seplog01.w) using the login information provided by the District.

Note: Parents and students who are new to the District will be provided with username and password information at the completion of the student registration process.

Updating Contact Information

Upon logging in, parents/guardians are asked to please review and update both your general and emergency contact information. By verifying that all of your contact information is up to date, you will ensure that the District is able to contact you when needed.

Directions for Updating Parent/Guardian Contact Information

Updating General Contact Information — Each parent/guardian is able to enter up to three (3) phone numbers and one (1) e-mail address.The general contact information that you provide may be used to notify you of school closings/delays, school activities, important dates, parent/student events, etc., through the District’s telephone/e-mail notification system.

Note: Phone calls from the District will display on Caller ID devices as coming from the District’s main phone number (724) 625-1518. Calls from individual school buildings will list that school’s main phone number. The “from” address in all e-mail messages from the District/schools will end in “@marsk12.org.”

To verify or update your information:

      1. Click on the “Student Information” tab.
      2. Click on “Request Changes for…” in the upper right-hand side of the page.
      3. Select “Family Information.”
      4. Add up to three (3) phone numbers and one (1) e-mail address per parent.
      5. Click “Save.”

Updating Emergency Contact Information — Each parent/guardian is asked to provide at least one emergency contact, other than yourself (e.g. grandparent, aunt, uncle, trusted neighbor, etc.). Emergency information may used to contact you and/or those you designate as emergency contacts in the event of a true District and/or school emergency or a student-related emergency in the event that you, as parent/guardian, cannot be immediately reached.

To verify, update or add emergency contacts:

      1. Click on the “Student Information” tab.
      2. Click on “Request Changes for…” in the upper right-hand side of the page.
      3. Select “Add Emergency Contact.” (Note: First and Last Name are required fields.)
      4. Add up to three (3) phone numbers per emergency contact.
      5. Click “Save.”

  2. Skylert Notifications

  4. Mars Area School District utilizes the Skylert notification system to distribute phone and e-mail notifications regarding general school announcements, inclement weather school closings, Remote Learning / Flexible Instruction Days, and/or critical or emergency school announcements.

  6. In the “My Skyward Contact Info” section within the Skylert tab, parents/guardians are asked verify that the boxes are checked in the column for each notification type. Ensuring that the appropriate boxes are check will ensure that parents/guardians receive all messages sent by the District and its schools.

  8. The system is also used to send text or SMS messages to those parents/guardians who have agreed to receive them. In order to receive text messages from the District, parents/guardians must: (1) have or enter a phone number in the “Text Message Numbers” field under the “Skylert” tab in Skyward; and (2) opt-in by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587.

Schoology

At the secondary level (7-12), Schoology is used by students to access instructional materials, assignments, assessments and other classroom information and by parents to view a student’s course and classroom activities. At the elementary level (K-6), parents use Schoology to access information posted by teachers about a student’s class; upcoming classroom events; and learning materials.

Access

To access Schoology, click on the “Learning Management System” icon on the District’s website, www.marsk12.org OR go directly to https://app.schoology.com/login.

Schoology also offers a mobile application, which is available for download via “GooglePlay” or the “App Store;” however, parents/guardians must login at https://app.schoology.com/login first before using the mobile app.
