Dear Mars Area School District Families,
While the investigation into this week’s bomb threat at Mars Area High School yielded no evidence that this was more than a single actor; and, there is no indication that this is part of a larger plot or that others were involved, enhanced security measure will be in place at the Fightin’ Planets Football Game tonight (Friday, Oct. 16) at Mars Athletic Complex.
To help maintain this secure environment, several changes are being made to our normal Mars Athletic Complex (MAC) operations:
- No guests will be admitted to the stadium before 6 p.m.
- No drink containers such as Stanleys, Owalas, etc. will be allowed.
- No bags will be allowed. This includes backpacks, tote bags, large purses, computer bags, etc.
Exceptions to this bag policy are as follows:
- Small non-clear clutches or wallets no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" (with or without a handle or strap).
- Medically necessary items and diaper bags are permitted after undergoing a security gate inspection.
- Blankets and stadium seats will also be inspected.
- Small non-clear clutches or wallets no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" (with or without a handle or strap).
Additionally, although this incident may have caused everyone to be on edge, I would advise our school community to exercise caution in regard to rumors or conjecture. Rest assured that, should we receive actionable information, we will act quickly and appropriately.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Jeff James
Director of Safety and Security
Mars Area School District
