District Addressing False Rumors of Threat

In response to persistent and continued rumors regarding a threat of violence at Mars Area Centennial School, Mars Area School District would like to reassure all parents/guardians, students and staff that these rumors are "false" and there is no threat to Mars Area Centennial School or any other District buildings.

On Oct. 31, the District communicated that administrators and police officials had investigated what was determined to be an "unfounded" report of a gun at Mars Area Centennial School. At no time, was there a threat to the health and safety of the student body and/or staff members at the school or at any District building. And, since that time, no additional reports of threats or any other safety concerns have been reported to the District or its schools.

The District calls upon all of our students, parents/guardians, faculty and staff to quell the spread of any false rumors regarding school safety, especially those distributed via social media. Promoting such rumors only incites the spread of false information and hinders the education process.

If and when there is any information regarding an actual emergency situation in our schools, our District will always communicate that information promptly. We thank you for your patience and cooperation as Mars Area School District strives to remain proactive in the protection of our students, faculty and staff members.

Sincerely,

MASD Administration
