Board Approves Bids for Tennis Court Project

Mars Area School Board has voted to approve bids for the replacement of Mars Area High School’s aging tennis courts at a total cost of $639,000.

The Board voted unanimously to award the general construction bid to Dun Rite Construction & Paving LLC at a cost of $537,600. The Board voted 6-2 in favor of awarding an additional bid for electrical work to Westmoreland Electrical Group for $101,400. (Board members Justin Miller and Aaron Rose cast the dissenting votes and John Kennedy was absent.)

Plans for the project include the construction of a five new tennis courts in the location of the existing facility. While the new courts will not have lights, electrical service has been included in the project to enable the District to add lighting in the future, if needed.

Construction is expected to begin in late-April upon the conclusion of the spring boys tennis season and all work will be concluded prior to the start of the fall girls tennis season. For more information, call (724) 625-1518
