District Aware of Generic Threats Posted Via Social Media

Mars Area School District is aware of generic threats pertaining to school violence that are being posted to social media.

Please know that none of these threats are specific to Mars Area School District. If the District receives any information related to our schools and/or students, appropriate precautions will be taken at that time. All information that has been shared with the District and Adams Township Police has been deemed to be “non-credible” at this time.

As these generic threats are being posted via social media, parents/guardians are urged to please talk with your children about the consequences associated with reposting and/or sharing this information. Students, who come across any of these posts, are asked to notify a parent/guardian, the police, or a school official.

In addition, please note that Butler Area Vocational-Technical School is closed today because of threats specific to Butler Area School District. Vo-tech students may either remain at Mars Area High School in study hall or, with a parent/guardian's permission, may be released to go home. Parents/guardians of vo-tech students, who are allowing your child to be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. in place of study hall, may e-mail [email protected].

We thank you for your patience and cooperation as Mars Area School District strives to remain proactive in the protection of our students, faculty and staff members.
