a group of boys wearing medals around their necksSeveral Mars Area High School and Mars Area Middle School wrestlers placed in the Keystone State Northwest Qualifier, held Feb. 18 in Erie Pa.

In the Boys 13-14 Division, freshman Ben Goehring (124), second place; eighth-grader Andrey Vizitiu (192), second place; eighth-grader Adrian Heinemann (103), third place; eighth-grader Grayson Joseph (147), fourth place; eighth-grader Liam Wilson (124), fifth place; seventh-grader Dominic Covert (89), sixth place; and seventh-grader Avery Szczesniak (117), eighth place, in their respective weight classes.

In the Boys 15-16 Division, freshman Parker Joseph (136), first place; sophomore Sam Passarelli (145), second place; sophomore Beckett Szczesniak (124), second place; freshman Ty Carson (110), second place; and freshman Gavin Shuck (117), sixth place. Sophomore Isaac Unruh (145) also competed.

The Top 7 placers from each division qualified to advance to the 2026 Keystone State Wrestling Championships, to be held March 13-15, at Bryce Jordan Center (University Park, Pa.).

Wrestlers Compete in Junior High Championship

Several members of Mars Area Middle School Junior High Wrestling Team competed in the District 7 Junior High Wrestling Championships, held Feb. 13-14 at Shaler Area High School.

Eighth-grader Andrey Vizitiu earned third place in the 192-pound weight class. Eighth-grader Adrian Heinemann (103) took fourth place and eighth-grader Liam Wilson (124) received seventh place in their respective weight classes.

Other participants included ninth-grader Graham Maringer; eighth-graders Troy Murray, Reese Lobas, Grayson Joseph, and Solomon Wolf; and seventh-graders Austin Ryan, Jaxon Shuck and Avery Szczesniak.

The wrestlers competed against teams from Allegheny, Butler, Westmoreland, Washington, Beaver and Armstrong counties. For more details, visit Facebook profile of the team.

Middle School Wrestlers Compete in State Championships

Two boys wearing wrestling singletsSeveral members of Mars Area Middle School Junior High Wrestling Team competed in the 2025 Keystone State Championships, held March 14-16 at Penn State University.

Eighth-grader Parker Joseph took seventh place in the 117-pound weight class of the 14U bracket and seventh-grader Grayson Joseph (115) received eighth place in the 12U bracket.

Also competing were freshmen Lukas Boronyak (167), Sam Passarelli (124) and Beckett Szczesniak (110); eighth-graders Zane Argeras (124), Ty Carson (96), Ben Goehring (110), Adrian Heinemann (85) and Lane Wilbert (172); and seventh-graders Andrey Vizitiu (190) and Liam Wilson (115).

Keystone State Youth Northwest Regional Qualifier,

Several members of Mars Area Middle School Junior High Wrestling Team placed in the Keystone State Youth Northwest Regional Qualifier, held Feb. 19&23 in Erie, Pa.

Freshman Sam Passarelli took second place in the 124-pound weight class. Eighth-graders Ben Goehring (110) and Parker Joseph (117) and seventh-graders seventh-grader Adrian Heinemann (85) and Grayson Joseph (115) also took second place in their respective weight classes.

Freshman Lukas Boronyak (167), and eighth-graders Ty Carson (96) and Zane Argeras (124), each earned third place; freshman Beckett Szczesniak (110) and seventh-graders Andrey Vizitiu (190) and Liam Wilson (115) took fourth place; and, eighth-grader Lane Wilbert (172) received fifth place in their respective weight classes.

2023-2024

Seventh-grader Places Eighth in 12U Competition

Teagan ThomasMars Area Middle School seventh-grader Teagan Thomas competed in the 2024 PAJW Youth Wrestling Championships, held March 23-24 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center.

Thomas advanced to the quarterfinal round and placed eighth in the 135-pound weight class of the 12U Boys competition.
