Parents Sought for Gifted, Special Education Committees

Mars Area School District’s Office of Special Education & Gifted Education is seeking parents/guardians interested in serving on separate Special Education and Gifted Education Parent Advisory Committees.

The purpose of the committees will be to inform parents/guardians about gifted education and special education issues; provide trainings for parents/guardians; improve communication between administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, service providers and community agencies; identify and address systemic issues that impact the delivery of gifted education and special education services; and, to maintain and improve the delivery of best and evidence-based education practices and programs throughout the District.

Each member of the selected Parent Advisory Committee will be responsible for attending quarterly meetings; organizing trainings for parents; providing input to the School District; and, advocating for all students within Mars Area School District.

Separate applications for the Gifted Education Parent Advisory Committee or the Special Education Parent Advisory Committee are available on Mars Area School District’s website, www.marsk12.org. Completed applications should be returned to Dr. Travis W. Mineard, Director of Special Education; Mars Area School District; 545 Route 228; Mars, Pa. 16046; by no later than Friday, Sept. 15.
