Middle School Student Involved in Accident

The following is a statement from Dr. Mark Gross, Mars Area School Distrct Superintendent:

As you may be aware, Mars Area School District has experienced a very traumatic event that has affected us deeply. At approximately 5:30 p.m. last evening, an eighth-grade middle school student was struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 228. The student was seriously injured and transported to the hospital for medical attention.

The District’s administration has been in close contact with the Adams Township Police Department, which is conducting a full investigation into this accident. Out of respect for the student and her family, we have no further comments or specific details to share relative to the accident or the extent of the student’s injuries.

We understand that there will be a variety of emotions and responses to what has occurred; therefore, please know that our counselors are available at the middle school to assist any students or staff, who may need special attention or support. At this time, I ask that you please join me in keeping this student and her family in your thoughts and prayers today, and in the coming days, while we remain hopeful for a full recovery.

Sincerely,

Dr. Mark Gross
Superintendent
