School Board Reorganizes, Welcomes New Members

Mars Area School Board is welcoming four new members as the Board reorganizes for 2022. New Board members are:

  • Mars Area School Board welcomed new members Nicole Thurner, Justin Miller, Jennifer DiCuccio and Lee Ann Riner at its Reorganization Meeting on Dec. 7.Jennifer DiCuccio, a Mars resident, is the former executive director of Butler County Humane Society. A U.S. Air Force veteran, she served as a technical support engineer lead in the areas of health care information technology during her 10-year military career. She and her husband, William, have one child in the District.
  • Justin J. Miller, a Middlesex Township resident, is owner and operator of J Miller Excavating LLC. He and his wife, Melissa, have two children in the District.
  • Lee Ann Riner, an Adams Township resident, is a stay-at-home mom. She previously worked in an intensive care unit at Shadyside Hospital. A five-year member of Mars Area Elementary PTO, Riner has served as the organization’s vice president for the last two years. She and her husband, Craig, have two children in the District.
  • Nicole Thurner, an Adams Township resident, is an attorney with Zunder & Associates PC. Her practice involves primarily family, domestic and juvenile matters.
In addition to welcoming its new members, the Board re-elected John Kennedy as Board President; and elected Sallie Wick as Board Vice President and Anthony DePretis as Board Treasurer. Other Board members are Kevin Hagen and Megan Lenz.
 
The Board appointed Hagen and Riner to serve on the Mars Planet Foundation Board of Directors with DiCuccio as an alternate; and Miller to serve on the Butler County Area Vocational-Technical School Authority Board with DePretis as an alternate.

Also of note, the Board set its 2022 meeting dates. Work sessions and regular meetings will continue to be held at 7 p.m. on the first and second Tuesday of each month, respectively, with a few exceptions: Jan. 4 and 11; Feb. 1 and 8; March 1 and 8; April 5 and 12; May 3 and 10; June 7 and 14; July 19; Aug. 2 and 9; Sept. 6 and 13; Oct. 4 and 11; Nov. 1 and 9 (Wednesday); and Dec. 6.

All meetings are open to the public and are typically held in the boardroom at the District’s Administration Office (545 Route 228, Mars). Any change in venue and/or information regarding virtual meetings will be announced appropriately.
