First Day of School Set for Tuesday, Sept. 8

The first day of the 2020-2021 School Year for Mars Area School District students is Tuesday, Sept. 8.

On Aug. 27, Mars Area School Board approved a change to the 2020-2021 School Calendar (provided below), pushing back the start of school for student until Tuesday, Sept. 8. (School was originally scheduled to begin on Aug. 31.)

The decision to move the first day of school was made because of unexpected delays in the delivery of technology supplies that are essential to the implementation of Live-Stream Interactive (LSI) and classroom furniture that will used to maintain social distancing as well as technical issues that limited access to the District’s Internet network, says Dr. Mark Gross, superintendent.

"All of our supplies are in. Our technology staff has been working around the clock. Our teachers have been testing the equipment all week. (The needed) desks came in this week also)," says Gross "Everything is in. It has been established and set up."
