Students to Perform with PMEA Junior High Band

Numerous Mars Area band members were selected by solo audition to perform in the 2019 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) Junior High Band Festival, to be held Friday, April 26, at Sharon High School (Sharon, Pa.).

Students are ninth-graders Christopher Dvorak (trombone), Audrey Gehm (oboe), Madison Moan (clarinet), Jacob Ottenweller (trombone) and Evan Rojas (tenor sax); eighth-graders Claire Felice (clarinet), Jamie Frantz (trombone), Ian Fuechslin (oboe), Carla Genevro (flute), Eden Gerlach (trumpet), Hayley Goerl (alto saxophone), Kaylen Lindenberg (trumpet), Andrew Nelson (bassoon), Madelyn Ostapchenko (flute), Noah Paul (baritone saxophone), Alexander Vedernikov (clarinet) and Meredith Wawrzynski (alto saxophone); and seventh-graders Cassandra Cannon (oboe), Meghan Smith (clarinet) and Nicholas Smith (clarinet).

Dr. Jonathan Helmick, Slippery Rock University director of bands, and Dr. Amanda Schlegel, University of South Carolina assistant professor of instrumental music education, will serve as guest conductors.

The event will conclude with a public concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 26, at Sharon High School. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door.
