Mars Area Middle School’s FOR (Friends of Rachel) Club will sponsor a Jean Day fundraiser on Friday, May 17, and Friday, May 24, to benefit the family of Tony Cook, who is battling cancer.

As an infant, Cook was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis, and as a result has developed a rare and dangerous form of cancer called a peripheral nerve sheath tumor. Cook, an eighth-grader at South Allegheny Middle High School, is the cousin of a Mars Area Middle School seventh-grader.

The cost to participate in the Jean Day is $5 per day. Collection jars will be available in the main office, cafeteria and in students’ homerooms. Proceeds will benefit the Cook family to help defer the cost of medical bills and travel expenses.

In addition, during the school’s Track & Field Day on Wednesday, May 29, the FOR Club will offer Photo Booth. Proceeds will be donated to a pediatric cancer hospital program.
