English/Language Arts
Welcome to the English/Language Arts Department...
We invite you to browse the different offerings, both required and elective on this information page. The ELA Department is committed to helping students discover, understand, interpret, and analyze a variety of texts from different ages, social contexts, and genres. In return, we believe our students will develop the confidence to examine, question, and consider multiple perspectives through discussion, writing, and research so that they become discerning readers, incisive writers, critical scholars, scholarly critics, and innovative thinkers who draw connections between the intellectual activities of the classroom and the world.
Our curriculum incorporates Pennsylvania Common Core Standards which fosters communication, critical and creative thinking through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Although students may be in an English Language Arts classroom, the skills learned will be invaluable to careers in business, law, education, medicine, government, the arts and social sciences. With that in mind, our course offerings at each level are rigorous and varied.
The following are the current English/Language Arts courses offered for students in Grades 7-12:
- Advanced Language Arts (Grade 7)
- English 9 / Literature Keystone Remediation
- Foundations of Communication
