Services for Students in Non-Public Schools

Public special education is accessible to resident students attending non-public schools by permitting the non-public school student to enroll on a part-time, dual enrollment basis in a special education program operated in a public school.

Special education programs are accessible to non-public school students through dual enrollment following a Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation (MDE) and the development of an Individualized Educational Program (IEP).

If a student in a non-public school qualifies for special education services and the parent/guardian does not wish to enroll them in the District full-time or through dual enrollment, the student can access these services during scheduled times when the services are available in the district. However, transportation to and from those services is the parent/guardian’s responsibility.

Parents of non-public school students, who suspect that their child is exceptional and in need of special education services, may request an MDE of their child through a written request to Dr. Travis W. Mineard, Director of Special Education, 545 Route 228, Mars, Pa. 16046; by phone at (724) 625-1518, ext. 1530; or via e-mail at [email protected].
