Developing the Plan
As per the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Mars Area School District developed the Health & Safety Plan to serve as the local guidelines for all instructional and non-instructional school reopening activities. As with all emergency plans, the Health & Safety Plan is tailored to the unique needs of our school community. In the development of the plan, the District considered input from various stakeholder groups across the District as well as guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH), American Academy of Pediatrics (APP), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Pandemic Coordinators/Reopening Committee
To begin the planning process, Mars Area School District named its Pandemic Coordinators (Dr. Mark Gross, superintendent, and Dr. Elizabeth McMahon, assistant superintendent) and an Administrative Crisis Team to facilitate the local planning process; monitor implementation of the District's School Reopening Health & Safety Plan; and to assess the implications of local health data on school operations and potential adjustments to the Health & Safety Plan throughout the school year; and to guide the efforts of the Reopening Committee. Members of the Reopening Committee assumed roles in the following categories:
- Health & Safety Plan Development: Individual that participated in drafting the Health and Safety Plan;
- Pandemic Crisis Response Team: Individual will play a role in within-year decision making regarding response efforts in the event of a confirmed positive case or exposure among staff and students; or
- Both (Plan Development and Response Team): Individuals will play a role in drafting the plan and within-year decision making regarding response efforts in the event of confirmed positive case.
